Altus Public Schools are beginning to prepare for the 2017-2018 school year. Student enrollment is part of the preparation process. Students currently in grades Pre-K through 7th grade will be receiving enrollment packets on Monday, April 24th. Completed packets need to be returned to the students’ school by Friday, April 28th.
Students entering school for the first time in August as a Pre-K or Kindergarten student will be enrolling at Altus Early Childhood Center, on Thursday, May 4th from 5:30-7:30p.m. Altus Early Childhood Center is located at 1100 North Forrest. Students wishing to attend Rivers Elementary as a Pre-K or Kindergarten student in the fall can enroll at Rivers Elementary on Thursday, April 27th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Students enrolling in Altus School for the first time will need the following items: Birth certificate (unofficial hospital records accepted), current immunization records, proof of residency (current utility bill, property tax receipt, or lease/mortgage agreement), and Social Security Numbers for each child (SSN is optional).
Altus Schools to hold One-Stop Enrollment on August 4th. Enrolling a child in a new school can be difficult. But, for parents of students new to any of the eight Altus Public School campuses or the local Head Start locations, enrollment is all in one spot – the Altus High School Cafeteria, across from the Altus City Park. “We really wanted to take the stress out of enrolling new students,” said Amanda Davis, director of public relations for Altus Schools. “Our One-Stop Enrollment is much more efficient, as parents are not only able to enroll all of their children, but also may sign them up for busing, extended-day care, the school lunch program, and more.” Altus Public Schools will hold their annual One-Stop Enrollment for all newcomers from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., on Friday, August 4th. All students new to Altus Schools are encouraged to enroll on this day. Parents may make one stop, complete all paperwork, and enroll all of their children. There’s no need to drive to each school. The Altus Kiwanis Club is partnering with the school district to provide free breakfast pastries, juices, and coffee for all coming to the event in the morning. Altus Schools have teamed up with Southwest Technology Center and the City of Altus to provide information on programs that they offer. Students who are enrolling in Altus Schools for the first time should bring the following items: Birth certificates (K & Pre-K), proof of residency (such as proof of payment of local or ad valorem taxes, title to a residential property in the district, valid and unexpired mortgage/lease agreement, receipt for payment of rent, current utility bill, or notarized affidavit verifying residency), current immunization records, Social Security Numbers for each child (optional), previous school records, and proof of custody (for children not living with a parent). The first day of school is set for Tuesday, August 15.
