Altus, Area Students Compete in Second Annual All-Star Olympics | Print |  E-mail

Altus All-Star Olympics began in 2011. It was funded through a grant from the Altus Public Schools Foundation. The grant was written by Mandy Crisman, Speech/Language Pathologist and Stacy Ogle, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, both employees of Altus Public Schools.

The goal of All-Star Olympics is to provide students with special needs the opportunity to participate in track and field events in which they would not otherwise be able to participate. All-Star Olympics also allows these students to have a feeling of pride and success when they are done.

Last year, All-Star Olympics was only offered to students from Altus Public Schools, and approximately 50 students participated. This year, invitations were sent out to area schools inviting them to this event. A total of 80 participants showed up to compete from Altus and six surrounding schools. The event was held at the Altus Junior High School Track Field on May 10, 2012.

“We hope that each year more schools will get involved and All-Star Olympics will continue to grow,” said Mandy Crisman, event coordinator. “Since the first All-Star Olympics, the community has been very supportive and the number of volunteers continues to grow once people see what a positive impact this has on our students,” she added.

Altus All-Star Olympics would like to thank the following businesses and organizations for their donations: Beta Mothers Club; Psi Beta Club, WOSC; Myrtle B. Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
